After traveling to New York and Texas, PoppyPink arrived at my Boston home. This photoshoot is especially close to my heart, as I am honored to have a personal connection to the family of Stephan Ross, the remarkable founder of the New England Holocaust Memorial.

The New England Holocaust Memorial, designed by Stanley Saitowitz, is one of the most powerful monuments I have ever experienced. It lives within the pulse of the city and the people walking through Boston in their everyday lives. There is something magical about that presence.

The Marcel Duchamp retrospective at MoMA revealed his brilliant miniature creations to me, and I felt connected and even more inspired. I have made several homages to Duchamp’s pieces. If I can’t own them, I can reproduce them ;) Dada agrees!

This year, the Venice Biennale feels more intense than ever. Political and social issues are part of my art practice, and I have a clear opposition to the ideologies of certain regimes and governments. At the same time, it feels crucial to separate individuals from their citizenship. Censorship of art and the boycott of artists can close down dialogue and risk becoming a form of pressure that contradicts the intention of protest itself. An artist’s origin and biography are often essential to the essence of the artwork, but they should not be tied to nationality as a criterion for how the work is perceived or valued. Is this what identity politics is reduced to?

This 4th of July marks the US Semiquincentennial, a historic celebration that also raises questions and conversations. It feels like a significant moment to revisit my Old Glory performance, developed during the SVA residency a few years ago. Flags are becoming increasingly charged objects, and the US flag remains the most iconic one, a symbol I keep returning to in my art.

PoppyPink is a minimalist performance that premiered in Central Park, New York, and is now expanding worldwide. It stands as a tribute to victims of war and violence, advocates for human rights, and creates a space for reflection, collective memory, and solidarity.
