PoppyPink NY 2024
  • About PoppyPink

PoppyPink is an ongoing, site-specific performance art project initially created to mark the one-year memorial of October 7th. The performance premiered in Central Park, New York, in October 2024. The artist wore a hand-knitted pink dress that unraveled as she walked, leaving a trail of pink thread symbolizing shared grief. It invites reflection on the collective impact of trauma and the ongoing journey of healing.

We pray for the healing of our people, for peace in the Middle East and the world.

  • PoppyPink Dress

Crafted by acclaimed fashion designer Haya Nir, renowned for her iconic boutique Katomenta and her volunteer work with Ayin Tova supporting October 7 evacuees, the PoppyPink dress symbolized resilience, hope, and healing. Composed of 2,530 feet of knitted yarn, representing the 253 individuals abducted from Israel to Gaza, this pink dress was displayed at the Jewish Museum in New York before the performance.

Nir knitted a third dress for the Texas visit and is now working on additional dresses for upcoming performances.

  • PoppyPink Texas

This fall, PoppyPink traveled to Houston and Austin to explore the possibility of a performance tour across Texas. The visit included meetings, networking, location scouting, and preliminary photography. Houston’s southern hospitality, along with its warm Jewish community and vibrant art scene, created a supportive environment for this meaningful project.

We invite cultural and academic institutions in Texas to host and support future PoppyPink performances. Each location will feature a unique path, thoughtfully designed to reflect its context and audience.
